Open Auditions for “Oliver”

Stools & a Folding Chair Youth Theater will be holding auditions for their upcoming musical
Oliver! on Tuesday, January 18, 2011

As we prepare to celebrate our 10th Anniversary beginning in the fall of 2011 we are excited to be bringing the musical version this Dickens tale to the stage. Previous shows have included: “Bye, Bye Birdie”; “Hello, Dolly!”; “My Fair Lady”, “Kiss Me, Kate”, “Annie Get Your Gun”, “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Oklahoma!”. Both “Fiddler” and “Oklahoma” played to 4 sold out performances. Show dates are May 19,20, 21. Saturday’s performance will be followed by a complete striking and clearing out of the set, costumes and props. The cast party will be on Sunday, May 22. The show will rehearse at Sashabaw Presbyterian Church on Maybee Road in Clarkston.

ABOUT US:
6 Stools & a Folding Chair Youth Theater (6S&FCYT) is a non-profit Youth Theater established to promote a quality theater experience in a wholesome environment where character means more than the part you play! As a Theater organization we will be celebrating our 10th Anniversary beginning in 2011. We specialize in musicals and believe in using quality (usually Broadway) shows.
Other performance opportunities have included One Act Play festival, Readers Theater, Showcase, and our annual “Happy Days” review to name a few.

Theater Workshops are held in the fall for various age groups on topics such as acting techniques, script analysis, stage movement, musical theater, the actor’s voice; make up skills, production, etc. Workshops are FREE.

We are an ecumenical group of youth who are primarily home educated; however our group also welcomes private and public schoolers.

6S&FCYT has been recognized by the Purple Rose Theater as a quality Youth Theater program and holds membership in the following organizations:
· National Music Theater Association
· American Association of Community Theater
· *International Thespian Association (provisional) a 75 year old theater education organization.

Our Staff
Producer and Director – Laura Sias-Lee, has a degree from Central Michigan University where she majored in Theater Arts and minored in Vocal Music Performance. She also holds a major in Sociology and a minor in Family Living. Laura received a Master of Divinity with an emphasis in the use of Visual and Performing Arts from McCormick Theological Seminary at the University of Chicago. She has been directing shows for the last 30 plus years and specialized in children and youth productions over the last 25 plus years. Her experience includes community theater, church theater groups, teaching classes in theater in a variety of settings including home school groups and the public school as a guest teacher.
She is a member of the National Thespian Society, The National Musical Theater Association and the American Association of Community Theater.

Music Director -Nan Lichtenberg, has studied music for 30 years. She has been involved with musical theater for Repertory Theater, Community Theater, church and home school groups. Most recently she has been recognized for her achievements by the Lakeland Players Community Theater for her role as co-music director for their production of “Curtains”, and as Music Director for “Scheherazade” and “Cinderella’s Glass Slipper”. She has received many other recognitions of this type over the years.

Choreographer/ Costume Designer – Abigail Lee, is a home school graduate and a Music Education Major at Oakland University. She studied Musical Theater dance with such teachers as Mark McClease and has choreographed numerous musicals including 6 for our group. She studied costume design for 6 years and has created and designed costumes for over 9 shows.
Abigail works in dance from the perspective of teaching non dancing actors how to move on stage. She has been a judge for the Performing Arts division of the Oakland County4-H fair and has worked as Stage Manager and Assistant director for Pontiac Theater IV, Lakeland Players and other theater groups. She is herself an award winning actress and singer, most recently receiving the Audience Choice Award for her portrayal of “Georgia” in the Lakeland Players production of “Curtains”.

Asst. Vocal Coach – JoAnn Kroll has a degree in Religious Studies (Children’s Ministry) from Alma College with a minor in Vocal Music and has been a professional music teacher for several years. She currently teaches music for OHMI (Oakland Home School Music, Inc.) and Performing Arts for E-HUB. Jo Anne is also the Performing Arts Superintendent for the Oakland County Fair.

Production Assistant – Roxanne Hassenzahl. has been involved with Theater both on and off stage for a number of years. She has been sharing her invaluable patience, insight and organizational abilities with 6S&FCYT for the last 3 years.

Our group is truly nonprofit and no one receives any salary or remuneration.

6S&FCYT is sponsored by Sashabaw Presbyterian Church (USA)

Costs
There is a $45.00 membership fee.
Family rates and reductions for various volunteer activities can be arranged.

Development Recognition
High School Students may participate in the personal development awards program which is recognized by the ITA. These awards are given through a point system for the personal development of theater skills and experience in various areas of theater arts.
