Detroit Zoo Homeschool Field Trips
The Detroit Zoo is reaching out to homeschoolers in the Metro Detroit area to offer the following field trips:
DETROIT ZOO HABITAT DESIGN
Rainforest frogs to polar bears, come learn how the Detroit Zoo takes care of each animal’s needs! Students explore how habitats are developed and the special accommodations the Zoo makes for all of the animals. We will also look at the journey zoos have taken to get where they are today.
WHERE: Detroit Zoo, Royal Oak – Ford Education Center
DATE: Friday, September 14, 2012
TIME: 10:45 – 11:45 (arrive at zoo by 10:15 to get the group admission rate)
AGES: 7th – 12th grade students (5th & 6th grade students welcome if
interested)
COST: $2 per student + group rate of $4.50 per person admission to the zoo
MIN/MAX: 15 students minimum / 60 students maximum
Parents and younger siblings are welcome to stroll the zoo during the program.
Students in grades 3 – 6 can attend the Survive or Thrive program that follows at 11:45.
SURVIVE AND THRIVE
Why do birds fly south for the winter? Why do zebras have stripes? This insightful presentation will explore both the physical and behavior adaptations that help animals survive in their environments.

NOTES: Families are welcome to attend the zoo at the group admission rate of $4.50 even if they do not participate in either of theseprograms. Arrive at the zoo by 10:15 for admission with the group. Pre-payment of the admission rate is required.
