Meet the Editor
Meet the Editor!
I’m Christina, mom to two amazing girls and wife to Charles. We are entering our 12th year of homeschooling. My oldest daughter went to public school for kindergarten, we brought her home for first grade and graduated in 2012. She is currently maintaining a 4.0 in the honors program while pursuing her BFA in Photography.
My youngest daughter was educated at home from the beginning, but decided to enter the public school system in the fall of 2012 for 8th grade. She has since returned home and is working on a blend of online & traditional curriculum for her high school years.
I’m not “anti-school” or “anti-establishment.” I am “pro-homeschool.” I believe that parents know what’s best for their family and their situation. For some that means homeschooling, for some it means public or private school.
When we moved to Michigan, from Florida, in 2005, I had a difficult time finding homeschool groups and activities, but when I did, I was surprised at all the community had to offer. Understanding how important it is to “plug-in”, I created this site so that all homeschoolers, and those considering homeschooling, would have a go-to resource for finding events, groups and programs in the Metro Detroit area. Along the way, I share a few thoughts about parenthood and homeschooling and I’ve begun cataloging the homeschool links I’ve collected over the years.
In addition to homeschooling, I work full time as a social media project & community manager working with various brands, agencies and consultancies. I’m a contributing blogger at Detroit Mommies and very active in the Mom Blogger community. Stop over at ChristinaStrickland.com to find out more about my work, projects and other thoughts on parenthood, social media and small businesses.
Wedged firmly between all of this, my husband and I play a strong supporting role in our oldest daughter’s budding photography career. Check out her Facebook Page and schedule your portrait session! We’re proud to announce that she is the recipient of a full scholarship to the College for Creative Studies Summer Program, based on her work as a photographer!
