Summer Scouts, Week Three: LetterBoxing and rubber stamping go hand in hand, and I had never done a DIY of either until now. Letterboxing was a concept that I had heard small whisperings of for a while but for some reason had never explored further. I think perhaps I was intimidated by geocaching, and so [...]

If you remember from our first week of Scouting, I had the kids making seed bombs for a naturalist/restoration badge. I brought them to Belle Isle Park, in Detroit, where there is an entire island in need of attention. If you locals have never visited, I hope you do soon as there is a Conservatory, Nature [...]

As you read this we are heading home from sight-seeing and visiting friends and family throughout Tennessee, South Carolina and Virgina! Because of that I was not able to put together the next post in the Scout Series, but I thought I would give you a few Crandom Rafts to try. Yes, I’m tired from [...]

Making Summer Scouts T-Shirts In my previous post I mentioned that if you follow along with me, I’ll give you instructions for each of the projects my scouts and I are doing this summer. Week One: Making Group T-Shirts I wanted the scouts to make their own shirts to wear on our field trips, instead [...]
For some time now, I’ve been looking into having my girls join something such as Girl, Fireside, Spiral Scouts, etc, but for one reason or another none of those seemed to quite fit our needs. The concept in general attract me but certain things were not as appealing (selling cookies, for instance). Okay I suppose if [...]

Homeschool Art: Summer Rhythm Rainbow Okay fellow homeschoolers, now is about the time of year when the world around us is teeming with the anticipation of doing all the amazing things we tend to take for granted all year. What makes me say this, you wonder? Before I answer that I first need to officially [...]
Reese Pottery announces the last session for this school year — space is limited to 6 students per class. Would your child love to learn how to use a pottery wheel? Make their own mug, plate or bowl they can actually use & Mom can put in a dishwasher? Design, build and sculpt a new [...]

My oldest is going to be eleven this year, and for as long as I can remember she’s learned best through movement. She’s not a hyper-active kid with intense bursts of energy (like her sister, for instance) but she’s been one to bounce around happily for hours on end, just thinking. For this reason and [...]

These doggies biscuits were the perfect craft for AV and her daddy. Cooking/Crafting in the name of our furry friends often is the best way to connect with a younger child. She enjoyed rolling the dough and cutting it into bone shapes, and was also excited to use Photoshop to design her label. Daddy was [...]

I don’t know about you, but we always encounter the same problem regarding cards for the Red Holiday. While you would think a homeschooled child would have fewer cards to hand out, as they are not in a class of 25ish other kids, they in fact have many more people to possibly make cards for! [...]

We just came home from a wonderful vacation. Thank goodness for a long weekend directly following it, though! We attended the Unschooler’s Waterpark Gathering at the Kalahari Resort in Ohio, and I must say that attending a conference for vacation is actually a bit of work. The work is beyond worth it though. I also [...]

Glossing over an awkward introduction, my name is Sara Evans and I will be bringing you a semi-weekly article about Crafting in the Homeschool. This is a new addition to Homeschooling inDetroitand I am thrilled to be here! It’s my hope that I can offer crafting ideas specifically tailored to homeschoolers, and ones that are [...]
Sara Evans (along with husband Brian) is raising two girls, born ’01 & ’06. They’ve been eclecticly-homeschooled their entire lives, pursuing passions rather than grades. Sara’s passions – in addition to homeschooling her girls! – include hoopdancing, natural living, and of course creating meaningful, functional crafts. She is founder of a secular Macomb County homeschool meetup group and owner of Etsy shop SunRaye Designs. Sara is currently teaching a class called Hogwarts America to tween homeschoolers at a local cooperative. When time allows she also volunteers for the Macomb chapter of the non-profit organization BirthNetwork National.
