Home School Nature Classes in Shelby Township

The Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center, in Shelby Township, offers programming exclusively for homeschool children in the Metro Detroit Area.

Home School Programs are available for any child age 4 and up and cover a variety of natural science, heritage and outdoor topics.  Pre-registration is encouraged but walk-ins are welcome.  Fee is $3 per participating child.

Upcoming classes include:

February 18: The “What Is this Animal” Nature Game – Use animal figures, artifacts, and pictures to learn some important animals and animal groups from around the world.  Play an animal naming game, providing there are enough participants.

March 18: Maple Syrup and other Things that Trees Provide – Learn about maples and other tress that provide important products for people.  Visit a maple tree and enjoy warm maple syrup over ice cream.  Dress for the weather and plan for a walk.

April 15: Nature Along a Secret Trail – Cross a gentle stream, see Skunk Cabbage, visit hidden valleys, and explore a part of the park usually known only to deer and squirrels. Dress and prepare for a hike.

Lindsey Clair

Lindsey Clair is a homeschooling mother of three daughters. She is married to her best friend Ron where he is currently a Solutions Engagement Supervisor for the State of Michigan at UPS. Lindsey possesses a degree in Child Development and just completed her BS degree in business marketing with a social media concentration. She is currently a professional blogger and freelance writer for multiple sites and enjoys working from home while homeschooling her children. Lindsey is also a musician. She currently plays the piano and flute and sings. She was formerly the children's director at her parent's church as well as on the praise and worship team. Lindsey's hobbies include reading, shopping, blogging, and hanging out with family and friends.
