Self Defense Classes in Troy

Self defense can be a life saving skill in many situations. Knowing how to react when faced with a dangerous situation is important to learn before it becomes necessary. Self defense training teaches a person to react with confidence, often the key to escape when dealing with an attacker.
This 8-week course aims to teach students basic self defense maneuvers and provide a time and place to practice their new skills. Students will learn basic hand-to-hand defense strategies to counter common threats or attacks. They will be introduced to principle concepts of martial arts, such as executing essential blocks, strikes and positioning. This class is an ideal way to begin learning valuable skills and improve confidence, discipline and determination.
Instructor Nisha Farooq is a first-degree black belt in American freestyle mixed martial arts, and has studied self defense for 9 years, with a base in Tae Kwon-do.
Class is open to all ages.
The cost is $50 for 8-week course which meets once a week from 2:30 to 3:30pm on Thursdays, beginning February 7th. Please bring check or cash to first class.
Students are to wear loose-fitting clothes that allow for easy movement. A minimum enrollment of 8 students is necessary for the class to run.
Classes meet at First United Methodist of Troy. It is located at 6363 Livernois in Troy.
