Join Girl Scouts! The local council, Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan (GSSEM), offers flexible ways for girls and adults to participate in the Girl Scout leadership experience. In a fun and stimulating environment, with the guidance and mentorship of caring adults, girls lead activities, learn by doing, and cooperate with others to make a difference in their world.
How can my daughter get involved in Girl Scouts today?
TRADITIONAL TROOPS — BECOME A TROOP LEADER OR CO-LEADER!
Being a troop leader or co-leader is a rewarding experience, and no prior Girl Scout knowledge or experience is necessary. Troops can get started with two committed adults and a minimum of three girls. Adults will complete an application and background check, as well as trainings which are designed to provide you with the resources and tools you will need to lead the troop. Adults can determine the day, time, and location of troop meetings to fit their schedules. Troops can meet weekly, every other week, or monthly. Troops can be divided by age and/or grade level or can be multi-age/grade.
Think you’re interested in becoming a volunteer?
Contact Audrey Pollard, Recruitment Specialist at firstname.lastname@example.org or 313.573.0746 if you have questions or would like more information. The volunteer application can be found on the Girl Scout website.
COMMUNITY TROOPS — AN INDIVIDUAL EXPERIENCE
For the most flexibility, community troops offer the opportunity for girls and adults to customize their experience and become involved in Girl Scouting right away. Based upon their time and interests, girls can participate in multi-session leadership series (which can be short or long-term, typically held over multiple weeks), council or community-sponsored skill-building events (one-time, stand-alone programs that can be a few hours, all day, or overnight), outdoor camp programs, or travel adventures. Girls can even participate in the fall product sale and cookie sale and earn money to support their Girl Scout activities!
Upon joining, girls are automatically included in the community troop for their geographical area. As a member of the community troop, girls can select the programs which match their interests, meet others with similar interests, have lots of fun, and enjoy a high quality Girl Scout leadership experience! Girls will receive a monthly newsletter highlighting all of the fantastic opportunities awaiting them!
