Here is a really cool program for high school students. It is a STEM and CTE program that focuses on energy use, sustainability, the smart grid, and building design: The SMART Competition. Visit the website here: www.smartcompetition.org
“The competition provides a real-world technology driven solution to an energy use problem on a virtual high school campus. The students create energy benchmarks, resolve green building design issues, and develop sustainable energy sources for the campus. Students will be able to improve their 21st Century skills essential for in-demand occupations within high-growth industry sectors. The program facilitates linkages between the high school, university, and industry partners.”
IEEE and Bentley Systems are two of the major sponsors. They are also providing access to technical professionals who serve as resource people for the student teams.
