Growing Up Green Festival comes to Macomb County!
The Growing up Green festival is held on July 26, 2014, at the Shelby Twp. Packard Proving Grounds from 9am-8pm.
The Growing Up Green festival aims to educate, empower, and equip families to lead a healthier, more natural, lifestyle without breaking the bank. There will be live music by The Gratitude Steel Band, a babywearing contest, yoga classes for kids and adults, cooking classes, and essential oil classes. The entrance fee for adults is $5 and kids under 12 are free.
Vendors include chiropractors, holistic dentists, handmade toys, cloth diapers, doula and midwife services, homeschooling curriculum, local children’s authors, healthy and whole food restaurants, essential oils, yoga, fitness, and many more.
Admission is good for the entire day, even if attendees leave and come back. They are welcome to visit in the morning for the farmers market or classes, and then return for music and dinner later in the day.
The festival is the brainchild of Sterling Heights resident Courtney Forgues and Shelby Township resident Nicole Thayer. The two local moms have 8 children between their two families and they developed the festival idea after working to transition their own families to a healthier, greener lifestyle, and realizing that there were many healthy companies struggling to connect with consumers.
Co-founder Courtney Forgues said “We started the Growing Up Green festival because on our own journey to health and a natural lifestyle we found it hard to find the businesses and services we needed. We want to make natural living approachable and attainable. Every step matters.”
“It seems overwhelming to make lifestyle changes and set new patterns, especially for families,” added co-founder Nicole Thayer. “We wanted to create an event where families could have fun and see how even little healthy changes can have big payoffs.”
