Homeschool Chemistry Class-Clinton Township

 Course Description:

In this class, students will study the topics of chemistry from states of matter to redox reactions.  Labs will be completed in class and help will be given on homework as needed. Students are expected to complete the chapter’s reading and problems at home. Tests and grades will be the responsibility of the parent. Attending this class would not give a student credit for High School Chemistry if work is not done outside of attending class/lab.

Course Requirements:

For a student to be successful with this course they need to have completed Algebra I.  

Cost: -Tuition fee is $168 for the school year. Class meets 14 times over the school year.

          -Supply fee is $80.00 for the year.  ($60 first half and $20 in January if needed)

          -Payment Schedule:

                   Deposit by August 26th – $50 non refundable

                   September 16th (1st day of class) – $60 supply fee

                   October 7th balance due $118

-A deposit of $50 is due by 8/26/16 which will be subtracted from the tuition. After 8/25 there is a $25 late fee added to the $50.

-There is a limit of 14 students per class.  It must have 10 students to run.

Class times: Fridays starting September 16th at 1:00 @ Heritage Church. Class runs for approximately 1 ½ hours to 2 hours depending on week.

Textbook & Supplies Needed:

          -The parent will need to purchase the textbook – Exploring Creation with Chemistry – from Apologia publishing along with the Solutions and Tests Manual from Apologia.

          -The textbook should be the second edition.

          -The student will also need a scientific calculator.

(A graphing calculator is highly recommended if a child is college bound.)

          – paper, pen, pencil, and a highlighter.

No formal class in December, although there may be a homework help session if needed – it will be announced in class later

About the Instructor

Kim is a former homeschooling mom whose children are now adults.

She has a BS in Electrical Engineering from what is now known as Kettering University.  Kim has experience teaching in the classroom setting as she is an adjunct instructor at a local college teaching mathematics for over 20 years.
