2017-2018 High School Field Biology Class-U of M Dearborn
The Environmental Interpretive Center at the University of Michigan, Dearborn is once again offering to host the High School Field Biology for Homeschoolers program.
Who: Homeschooled High School students who enjoy being outside in all kinds of weather who have a sincere interest in nature, ecology, etc. (Students must be between the ages of 14 & 18 as of September 1st, 2017 for the 2017/2018 class.)
What: High School Field Biology – Modeled after the 300 Level Field Biology class at University of Michigan Dearborn.

When: 2017/2018 school year. Weekly classes will meet on Fridays from 9:30AM to Noon, from mid-September through early June, with breaks for major holidays.
Drop-Off: This is a drop off program for well-behaved students. Parents are not required to stay during class time.
Cost: The EIC is once again generously offering this class at no charge to families. However, each student MUST provide the following in order to participate: Field Guides (available used on Amazon for $40-$50 total), a good pair of working binoculars (either 7 X 35 or 8 X 32), and appropriate clothing (including quality snow boots and rain boots) so that the student can be outside comfortably for 1 1/2 to 2 hours each week throughout the entire school year.
Expectations: Students will be expected to happily participate in the outside portion of the class as well as classroom discussions related to their outdoor experiences and homework assignments. There will be approximately 1 hour of homework each week. Students can miss no more than 2 classes each quarter.
Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for this class. Biology can be helpful, but some students have also found it helpful to have this class before high school level biology.
Number of Students: Minimum of 15/Maximum of 25 *engaged, interested, and dedicated* students. Applications, including a short personal essay as well as a recommendation form from a non-family member adult will be required in order to be considered for this program.
Timeline: Applications are due by May 31, 2017 for early admission.
