Math Resources

A Maths Dictionary Great dictionary with definitions of many math topics and clear examples and demonstrations of concepts.

A Plus Math On-line and printable flashcards, games and worksheets for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Can create own flashcards and worksheets.

AAA Math This site offers lessons and interactive activities that cover a wide variety of topics.

Apples 4 The Teacher This site offers tons of math games. Many of them are interactive!

Beacon Lesson Plan Library Lesson plans with great hands-on ideas. Look for the hands-on activity and refer the parent to the activity and adapt instructions if needed.

Brain Pop Jr. Lessons and hands-on activities (the videos are usually subscriber only–occasionally one will be free to view).

Busy Teacher Cafe A variety of math worksheets.

Dr. Mike’s Math Games Really GREAT worksheets, board games, and other Math printables for grades K-8.

Everyday Math Resources Links to various on-line games and activities. Nicely organized by topics. Also lists resources by grade level.

Illuminations Hands-on activities and on-line activities. Searchable by grade and topic. The hands-on activities are for teachers, but are usually easily adaptable for use by a parent and child. Click on activities or lessons and search.

National Library of Virtual Manipulatives Great site for Manipulatives; Bar charts, money, fraction bars, percentages, pie charts, number patterns, spinners, and lots more.

History Resources

Teaching History.org describes itself as an “educational clearinghouse.”  Here you can find lesson plans, resources and even ask a master teacher a question.

Keene Public Library offers a very nice list of historical fiction, organized by country.

Concordia University Chicago offers free art history lessons available as a .pdf download. Each month (Sept – June) focuses on one piece of art (painting, sculpture, etc.) and includes a short artist bio, details about
the piece, discussion questions, and hands-on activities.

 

Foreign Language Resources

Salsa is a free comprehensive Spanish program for young children featuring puppets, state-of-the-art graphics, animation and a good dose of humor.

 

Science Resources

Howard Hughes Medical Institute offers 17 free DVD plus downloadable teacher and student guides for a variety of science topics including genetics, biology, and biodiversity.  Shipping for the DVDs are free too.

 

Health & Fitness Resources
